I always say to my clients – “buy a product, not the digital images”. And I so mean that. In 30 years time (I nearly wrote ’50 years’ before I suddenly thought I doubt I’ve got that long), I’m not going to sit down for a couple of days and work out what discs have what on them and what needs so to be sent off to be converted into whatever format technology demands of us then! But I am going to look on my wall and remember “that was a great day”. And I do hope I will have grandchildren I will sit with who will turn over the pages of an album and say “and was my mummy really that skinny when she was 17”?!
If you’re investing in a shoot – then really make use of your photographer afterwards and ask them how your pictures will best be preserved and displayed. Be proud of your memories – have them around you to remind you what is important in life. Don’t leave them in a drawer.
This Christmas I’m taking my own advice. I’ve ordered several pictures of my daughters and I’m currently putting together an album. I know I can use them to show clients, so for me they have a dual purpose – but I’ll always have them – and every day I will have those memories… Now, the hard thing is how to get my sons to agree to have some photographs taken too….
Thank you for visiting and now please link to the next in the Sisterhood Circle, lovely Isabelle xx
Boo, this is so true. I always print my photos as I'm fascinated with old photos and someday our photos will be the old photos for the next generation – where will our external drives be then?? but the photos on our walls, in albums and even in boxes are the ones that they will look at! and my favourite bit – "was Mummy really that thin" – classic hehe
Boo…these are so beautiful …your daughters really are simply gorgeous x
I print and frame a lot, in fact I should have more walls for all the photos I have 🙂 The thing is, I could watch the photos all the time, no need for tv or anything, I get happy just seeing them. Your daughters are so pretty!
Your daughters are divine! I don't print often but when I do, it is in album form. I must get onto that – thanks for the reminder!
beautiful simply beautiful
Those are absolutely gorgeous! I agree with you. My daughter is turning 11, and I'm going to make her a book. I have so many photos on computer and hard drives. But most of all, Boo's clients, buy lots of pictures from her. She's so talented! Have fun in Venice, by the way!!!
Eliza, nice point there. I actually wrote something similar to what you were driving at in our blog: http://www.greatimagesped.com. I called it, The Value of a Printed Image. It's quite unfortunate that the digital age has made everyone lazy to print images or have them made into albums. With the influx of camera technology, and the Iphone in particular, only a very few are still having their images printed. I read somewhere as well, that with Facebook, photos have become very temporary since there are just so much of them, and just like news, they are present today but gone tomorrow. Anyhow, I would like to ask your permission if I can post your topic in our blog just to reiterate to our patrons here in the Philippines (yes, we are that far away…) what you were pointing at. Thank you so much and your work is just beautiful.
Thank you Greatiamgesped. I am happy for you to post my blog topic in your blog, if you would include a link back to this one! I'm always amazed at how the internet closes the miles, and how no matter how great the distance, we share so many of the same concerns ! Boo xxx
